"Chrismon" is a combination of parts of two words: CHRISt and MONogram. A Chrismon is a monogram of Christ.
Chrismons are primarily white (symbolizing purity) or gold (symbolizing glory and magestry) and are to be handmade.
Most of ours were orginally fashioned by church members in 1981 and refurbished in 2006.
Many new Chrismons were created at the church-wide "Christmas in July" work day in July, 2006.
The evergreen tree, symbolizing eternal life,
is the backdrop for the Chrismons.
It is customary to use a type of tree that is native to the location of the church. Here in southeast Missouri the native evergreen is the cedar tree, which grows in its natural state throughout the area. This year's tree grew up near a railroad crossing. It was cut, set up, and decorated by several men of the church.
